The short version
kitbashr does not host, copy, or distribute Games Workshop’s rules. When you build a list, your browser downloads the open-source, community-maintained BSData catalogues directly from their public source and processes them on your device. We only ever store the choices you make — ids and text strings like a unit’s name and your points — never the rules themselves.
Where the data comes from
BSData is a long-running, open-source community project that maintains army-builder data files (the same format used by tools like BattleScribe). kitbashr fetches those files from GitHub in your browser and reads them locally. They are cached on your own device only; you can clear that cache any time from your account settings.
What kitbashr stores
Your saved armies and collection are a “recipe” — the identifiers and labels of what you selected, your points totals, wargear and enhancement names you chose, and your own notes. That is your data about your hobby. The underlying rules text, profiles and stats are read live from the community data on your device and are not written to our servers.
Why this is lawful
Copyright protects the distribution and copying of a work. The party that obtains and processes the community data here is you, on your own device, from a public open-source repository — the same thing other community army-builders have done for many years. kitbashr acts as a local viewer and a place to save your selections; it is not a distributor of Games Workshop’s copyrighted rules, and it does not reproduce them in our database or charge for access to them.
We also don’t use any Games Workshop trademarks, logos or artwork, and we make no claim to be official or endorsed.
Accuracy & why we only warn
Because the data is community-maintained, it can be incomplete or out of date, and some things (such as stratagems) simply aren’t included. For that reason kitbashr will warn you when a choice looks like it breaks a rule, but it will never stop you from building what you want — the data isn’t authoritative, edge cases exist, and you are the best judge of your own game. Always check the current official rules.
