The bench update: dry timers, a painting log, and smarter shopping

kitbashr now keeps time with you at the bench — it logs what you paint, counts down your dry times, and turns 'paints you're missing' into a one-tap shopping list.

  • NewYour painting log. Finish steps in a guide and kitbashr quietly logs the sitting — what you painted and roughly how long. The dashboard now shows real time painted this week, not guesswork. Turn it off anytime in studio defaults.
  • NewDry-time timer. A countdown right in the guide player for washes, varnish and glue — set your usual dry time once in studio defaults, tap to start, and your phone buzzes when it's ready. It keeps running while you read ahead.
  • NewOne-tap shopping. The 'you own X of Y paints' check on guides — and now on community shares too — grew a button: add everything you're missing straight to a wishlist.
  • ImprovedTwo wishlists on the free plan. So your shopping list never has to share space with your someday list.
  • ImprovedSearch everything. The search bar now finds your mixes, guides, projects and armies — not just paints.

kitbashr in your pocket

The whole studio now works properly on your phone — and you can install it on your home screen like a real app, with the important bits available even on patchy hobby-room WiFi.

  • NewInstall it. Add kitbashr to your home screen from your browser menu — it opens full-screen with its own icon, like a native app.
  • NewWorks on patchy WiFi. Pages, paints and recipes you've opened recently stay available when the connection drops — perfect for checking the next step mid-brushstroke. Signing out wipes everything stored on the device.
  • NewBottom tab bar. Paints, mixes, guides and armies are one thumb-tap away on phones — no more digging through the menu.
  • ImprovedArmy lists on mobile. Tap any unit and its full datasheet slides up — stats, weapons, abilities. The add-unit picker can also download the game data right where you need it.
  • ImprovedFind your paints. The inventory has a proper search box, global search lives in the top bar on phones, and slimmer cards fit more of your collection per screen.
  • ImprovedTouch-sized everything. Bigger buttons across the app — quantity steppers, recipe rows, guide-step editing — and forms no longer zoom-jump on iPhone. The 'best on a bigger screen' notice is gone for good.

🛡 Security update

Security release: audited, hardened, verified

We put the entire platform through a line-by-line security review — every route, every permission check, every upload path — then fixed and shipped everything the same day. Your hobby data deserves that care; this release is us proving it.

  • SecurityFull security audit. The complete codebase — accounts, sessions, community hub, image uploads, subscription limits — was reviewed end to end. Every finding was fixed, tested and deployed to production the same day.
  • SecurityStronger sign-in protection. Two-factor codes are now strictly limited per login attempt, and brute-force throttling can no longer be sidestepped — even by attackers spreading guesses across many connections.
  • SecurityHardened in the browser. Every page now ships a strict Content-Security-Policy plus clickjacking and content-sniffing protections, enforced at two independent layers.
  • SecurityOversized-request shielding. Malformed and oversized uploads are rejected at the network edge before they can tie up the service.
  • ImprovedComplete data export. Your GDPR export now truly contains everything — community shares, follows, notifications, image details and your engagement history, alongside all your studio data.
  • ImprovedCleaner goodbyes. Deleting your account now also scrubs your public handle from anything you shared with the community — published shares stay useful, but they're attributed to “Deleted User”, not you.
  • ImprovedSturdier foundations. Nightly automated backups and data-retention cleanup now run on schedule, and the server moved to a long-term-support OS.

Share your mixes too

Match links got a sibling — you can now share a custom paint mix the same way: the recipe and the final colour, exactly as you made it.

  • NewShareable mixes. Hit Share on any custom mix to get a clean public link — the recipe plus your exact result colour, even if you hand-tweaked it. No login needed to view, and it unfurls into a preview card when you paste it.
  • ImprovedLinked-up conversion charts. Every colour in a brand-to-brand conversion chart now links straight to its full match page, so you can dig into the closest equivalents in one click.

Share your paint matches

Found the closest match? Now you can share it — as a clean link that unfurls into a preview wherever you paste it.

  • NewShareable match links. Every cross-brand match gets its own public page — the closest Vallejo to a Citadel colour, say — with swatches and a link-preview card. No login needed to view, so drop it straight into a Discord or Reddit thread.
  • NewShare menu. A Share button in the paint converter with a preview, one-tap copy, and quick links for X, Reddit, WhatsApp, Discord, Instagram and your device's share sheet.
  • ImprovedFriendlier 404. A proper branded page when a link is broken or a page has moved, instead of a bare error.

Polish, and a studio that fits your pocket

The whole workspace now works on a phone, and the guide tools got a proper glow-up.

  • ImprovedWorks on mobile. The app reflows for small screens — a slide-out menu, single-column pages and tap-friendly controls across inventory, wishlists, projects, guides and more.
  • ImprovedGuides, refreshed. A premium full-screen player with phase-coloured steps and larger photos, clearer step cards, and a tidier step editor and cover header.
  • ImprovedClearer pricing. The plan comparison reads cleanly on small screens, with the feature column pinned as you swipe across.
  • NewApp icon. kitbashr finally has its own little orange ‘k’ in your browser tab and on your home screen.

Scale tools for every hobby

New tools for model-railway, scale-kit and wargaming builders — work out sizes and bases without the maths.

  • NewScale calculator. Convert any real-world size to model scale and back, across model-railway, scale-kit and wargaming scales, with a visual size preview. Free for anyone — no account needed.
  • NewBase-size picker. Enter your miniature's footprint and get the right round or oval wargaming base, with overhang handled — and you can turn the model 90° on oval bases to check the fit either way.
  • ImprovedReference charts. A full scale chart and a miniature mm→ratio chart, from 6 mm epic up to 120 mm display pieces.

A catalogue worth painting from

kitbashr opens to everyone — and the built-in paint library just got enormous, with your studio now remembering how you like to work.

  • NewOpen beta. kitbashr is open to everyone — every plan, including Pro, is free while we're in beta.
  • New30+ brands built in. Nearly 10,000 colours — Vallejo, Citadel, Army Painter, Scale75, Reaper, AK and more — searchable across every paint picker.
  • NewStudio defaults. Set your go-to brand, measurement unit and default model status once; new paints, mixes and models pre-fill from them.
  • ImprovedSettings, reorganised. One focused page per concern — account & security, plan & billing, studio defaults, data export, privacy, and a clearly-marked danger zone.
  • FixProfile popups now centre correctly over feed cards, and the default dashboard leads with the clock.

The Community Hub

kitbashr is more fun with other painters. Publish what you've nailed, and pull in schemes from across the hobby.

  • NewCommunity Hub. Publish a mix, recipe or guide as a shareable template — then browse and import what other painters have shared.
  • NewPublic profiles & @handles. Claim a username, set an avatar and bio, and follow the painters whose work you like.
  • NewVerified creators. A badge for trusted contributors, plus a notification when someone new follows you.
  • ImprovedProfile privacy. Choose exactly which counters — uploads, upvotes, followers — appear on your public profile.

Armies, projects & a dashboard you control

Plan the whole army, not just the next pot — and arrange your dashboard the way you think.

  • NewWarhammer 40k army lists. Build a roster with live points and detachment validation. Game data is community-authored (BSData) and parsed on your device — we never host the rules.
  • NewImport & export. Bring lists in from CSV or JSON, export them back out, and print a clean PDF sheet (depending on your plan).
  • NewProject rosters. Group models into projects for any system or hobby, not just 40k.
  • NewWishlists. Stash the paints you want, then pull them into a shopping run.
  • NewConfigurable dashboard. Show, hide and reorder widgets — Pro can free-resize the grid.
May 24, 2026v0.4

Models, mixes & guides

The three tools the whole app was waiting for: a model log, a colour mixer, and runnable step-by-step guides.

  • NewModels. Log every miniature with build & paint status, tags, and the exact paints you used.
  • NewCustom mix builder. Stack paints in any ratio and watch kitbashr preview the blended colour in real time.
  • NewStep-by-step guides. Write guides with per-step photos, timings and notes — then run them like a checklist while you paint.
  • NewPlans. Free, Plus and Pro tiers, with limits enforced server-side and your data always exportable.
May 23, 2026v0.3

Paint inventory & dark mode

Your collection now has a home. Track every pot — picked from a brand catalog or added by hand — with quantity and fill level, all on a clean swatch grid. Plus a proper dark mode.

  • NewPaint inventory. A swatch grid of your pots with per-paint quantity steppers and a five-level fill gauge.
  • NewAdd from catalog or by hand. Pick from a brand's range, or add a custom paint with your own name, code and colour.
  • NewVallejo catalog built in. The full Vallejo range — Model Color, Game Color, Xpress and Metal — ready to add in a click.
  • NewDark mode. Toggle it from the profile menu or account settings. It sticks across reloads.
  • ImprovedWider, cleaner paint cards with a clearer fill indicator and tidier controls.
May 22, 2026v0.2

Accounts & a real app shell

kitbashr grew from a sign-in box into an actual app: a sidebar workspace, self-service account management, and security we're proud of.

  • NewApp workspace. A sidebar + topbar shell with a dashboard, paint inventory, and account areas.
  • NewAccount settings. Change your display name, manage devices, export your data, or delete your account.
  • NewActive sessions. See every signed-in device and revoke any of them — or all the others at once.
  • NewTwo-factor authentication. Optional TOTP 2FA with one-time recovery codes.
  • ImprovedGDPR data export downloads everything we hold about your account as JSON.
May 21, 2026v0.1

Hello, world.

The first release of kitbashr. Create an account, verify your email, and sign in securely. The foundations are laid for everything to come.

  • NewRegister, verify & sign in. Email verification, secure password reset, and server-side sessions.
  • NewSecurity from day one. Argon2id password hashing, anti-enumeration, rate limiting, and CSRF protection.
  • NewPer-account isolation. Your data is fenced off at the database level, not just in app code.

Coming up next.

Barcode scanning, paint-run logging with dry-time timers, and an iOS companion app are all in the works.
